Knowing is Half the Battle

Pals at work told me about the Environmental Working Group today. On this site, you can find out everything you need to know about the health and beauty products you use. So what did I do when I got home today?

RESEARCH!!!

What did I find out from my research?

First off, I am a dumbass!

Remember last year, when I was all high and mighty, switching from Dove soap to Jason? Dove ranks around a 3-4 on the EWG "clean" list. Jason's lavender body wash? 7.

Later, Jason!

However, I was pleased to find out that my favorites...

Trader Joe's Tea Tree Shampoo & Conditioner

Tom's of Maine Sensitive Toothpaste

Burt's Bees lip gloss

EVEN Opti-free contact lens solution...

...ALL rank around a three and under.

ALSO - Jason's Fragrance Free Body Wash is 0 or 1 or something. So there may be Jason in some form in my future.

Seriously - check out the EWG website! It's so fun!

Let's see...

...What else is up?

I got the bridesmaid dress for my sister Mose's wedding.
I'm so happy it's a great dress!

I got to goof off with my other sister Reen-Bean in the kitchen.
She's my silly pal!

I got an Owlie from Doodlebug's Jewelry Box.

I got plenty of backyard sun time.

I told Reenie... our backyard is a place of constant peace for me... every time I am upset, I just go sit out back, and everything balances itself out into heaven. Yeah, Pennsylvania!!!

Aaaand... I made the best raw cookies EVER!

What special place gives you peace?

Great dress! :)
I was super fussy about skin products for some time, but now I just make sure they weren't tested on animals (not too difficult in the UK) and I only use the bare minimum of stuff (soap and shampoo, mineral make up that I don't wear everyday and some perfume). I do use a pharmaceutical skin cream (that was tested on animals I'm sure:-( ), as it's the only thing that keeps my skin from splitting. The reason I ditched the expensive natural stuff was so I could afford to buy organic meat instead of regular stuff when I started eating it- I gathered that was the best use of my money, and I don't need all that smelly skin stuff. Oh yay, birthday! I am totally going to send you my story, I meant to write it up at the weekend but I was pretty busy. Definitely by the end of this week!!

I love that pic of your backyard. So serene. I miss having acres and acres of land surrounding me. Sometimes I think I'll always be a farm girl at heart.

My special place is the beach. There is something so soothing about it. I don't travel "down to the shore" to go on rides and eat crazy boardwalk food. I love the beach because of the feeling that the crashing waves and warm sand in my toes gives me. It's one of the only places that truly fills me with calm.

I thought the Trader Joe's shampoo was a skin care system when I first click on the link. I got all excited! I thought you were sharing your clear skin secret.

Great post as always! :)

Thanks for the kind words, friends!

Plak-my skin care system is simple. I rarely wash it. Only after a workout do I put soap on it, and when I do, it's very watered down soap. During the summer, I use witch hazel when it feels oily. When it's dry or sunburned, I rub almond oil (the cooking kind!) on it before bed.

I stopped using soap on my face because I read that blemishes are often caused by overwashing. In my case, it's totally true!

Oh yeah - And I never ever ever use foundation.

Hope that helps! :-)

I love places of constant peace.

I'd have to say that being in a pool is one of the most peaceful experiences for me.

Current addiction: Trader Joe's pineapple salsa...

P.S. Love the picture of you and your sister.

Love that dress! I hate all the dresses I've warn in weddings. That one looks like you could actually wear it again! I've been in about 5 I think. That back yard looks super peaceful! We are moving by the lake for a while, so I'm hoping to find peace there!
